EDUCATIONAL PROCESS

Graduates of the faculty have higher physical and mathematical education in the two following specialties:

  • "Applied mathematics and informatics" with the qualification of mathematician and system programmer;
  • "Applied mathematics" with the qualification of mathematician-engineer. The apprenticeship is 5 years and 6 months. Students may also graduate with a degree of Bachelor in applied mathematics and informatics. In this case the apprenticeship is 3 years and 6 months.

The faculty of applied mathematics and physics MAI is one of the first faculties of such a profile that were found in the leading universities in 1970. Our faculty has an adjusted educational system, which is properly accredited and licensed.

The curriculum of "Applied mathematics" specialty is based on profound mathematical and physical courses of the highest level combined with deep study of informatics. Engineering and social economic disciplines are also studied. Students of 4-th and 5-th years take special courses according to department specializations that they choose on competitive or commercial basis. Each department offers one or two "chains" of special courses. Many students graduate the institute with second higher economical education. For this purpose they attend night classes for Bachelors in management and marketing.

The best students study according to individual plans.

Every year 20% of graduates enter the post-graduate study immediately on graduating the institute. Scientific research that students carry on during their degree work is often sufficient to enter the post-graduate study. Besides, all graduate students from other universities and those who do not pass the competitive exams enter the post-graduate study on commercial basis.

The main physical and mathematical disciplines given at the faculty are as follows: mathematical analysis, linear algebra and analytical geometry, discrete mathematics, differential equations, theory of complex variable functions, functional analysis, partial differential equations, numerical methods, probability theory and mathematical statistics, theory of random processes, optimization methods and optimal control, system analysis, theory of games and operations research, mathematical economics, physics, theoretical mechanics, mechanics of continua.

The faculty gives a profound course of informatics disciplines since most of students specialize in these disciplines. Different departments of the faculty have more than 10 scientific directions in informatics, information technologies, mathematical cybernetics, and other related topics.

The faculty provides a complete cycle for preparing specialist of the highest level. It includes general courses, special courses, individual education, scientific research for students, scientific probation. There are post-graduate study and work for doctor of science degree in the specialty "Mathematical software for computers, computing complexes, systems, and networks". The faculty has a Dissertation Board that awards candidate (Ph.D.) of mathematical and physical sciences degree .
